2. Scroll down to find the Course Registration form on this page. Be sure you are logged in as a member.
3. In the Amount section, please enter the amount of the course fee. In the Comment section, please enter the name of the course for which you are registering. Click pay to complete the process.
4. Confirmation and further information will be sent to your email.
About the course levels:
The levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) for each course refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR). You can read more about the CEFR levels here. If you are not sure of your level, or which course is right for you, you can take the free placement test which is also linked below on this page.
ONe-Week beginner IntensiveReady to jumpstart your journey to French? Award-winning prof Gigi Kuhn will offer a one-week intensive courses for beginner-level French speakers. These intensives are a great way to learn the basics and get prepared for upcoming in-person course offerings in the fall. COURSE INFORMATION:
| Beginner FrenchThis entry-level course is designed for complete beginners to gain competency in French. Students will develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills necessary to identify vocabulary terms and utilize proper grammatical structures in French. Preparation outside of class and active participation in class are necessary to succeed. Assignments will be assisted by texts, visual aids, and cultural reflection. Students will become familiar with engaging effectively in a variety of conversations in French. COURSE INFORMATION:

Cours semi-débutantsGrâce à un jeu de questions et de réponses nous allons revoir et consolider ce que vous avez appris dans le cours de débutants. Le but de ce cours est d'améliorer la compréhension et l'expression orale, pour que vous puissiez parler de différents sujets. À la fin de ce cours vous serez capables d'utiliser les différents temps en français et votre vocabulaire sera considérablement élargi par les nombreux documents que vous allez écouter et lire. | Cours INTERMéDIAire
A ce niveau-là, vous êtes déjà capables de converser de différents sujets. Donc dans ce cours nous allons lire et écouter des documents en français à une vitesse normale, podcasts par exemple, articles de journaux et autres et en discuter pendant la classe. PLACEMENT TESTSBefore you begin taking classes with us, we'd like to get to know a little bit about your level of French, so we can place you in the proper classes. We use the free TCF examine, which tests your oral comprehension, language structure, and reading comprehension. ![]() | Marie-Françoise Bernard Marie-Françoise grew up in France, studied English language and literature at the University of Lyon and taught English in Chamonix. She has taught French at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C., at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., and to many businessmen and women at Ceran Lingua International in Spa, Belgium. She has been with the Alliance Française de Pittsburgh since 2012. Marie-Françoise likes walking in the woods, has a passion for Argentine tango and she loves sharing her language with her students. |
![]() | Brett Wells Currently, Brett serves as the French language program coordinator at Pitt. His interest in French initially came out of his studies in music at Drake University. He later studied applied linguistics and French at Stanford, and in Quebec, and France and is particularly interested in language pedagogy for adult learners. He is still a musician and continues to play organ and piano. |
Gigi Kuhn Born in Saigon, raised in Paris, studied in Montreal, and worked in London, Gigi now has called Chicago her home since the year 2000. Gigi teaches French to all ages and at all levels. In 2015, the Chicago chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) awarded Gigi its distinguished "Prix d'Excellence" for outstanding contributions to the teaching of French language and culture. |
